2004 - 2005

Year of Jewelry
~~~~~~~~~
I am entering into an agreement with myself ~
A contract most important to keep ~
And I shall value and learn the lessons of art,
Life and commitment
Here is my journal
2004-05 Year of Jewelry
Week 18 ~"Rings":
I always forget how CRAZY
this week is every year! Still, I managed to make a new ring for the YOJ ~ it was from one of my mags and I made it from memory, so it isn't what I intended. Still, its sort of a new technique for me. Here it is, my Bling Ring
Week 17 ~"Snowflakes":
When I first made the commitment to myself to undertake the Year of Jewelry, I was fully aware that there would be a week (or two) when I would be pressed to the last minutes of the deadline, with no reserves left, no creativity, and physical exhaustion, all combined to make producing the peace a nightmare.
I was right, and this was the week.
I had every intention of making a lacy, graceful, pristine snowflake... and it may still appear, possibly sometime in January when snow depths strand me inside. But for tonight, its a Snowflake Obsidian pin, with carved rectangular snowflake obsidian bead and crystal and snowflake obsidian dangles. The wire sculpted design was mostly accidental ~ a "save" after constructing the pin upside down. The original loops for the dangles were much better but are now hidden behind the top of the bead.
The new technique attempted here was to wrap a wire bundle, turn the 18 g into the pin attachment, thread the bead on one of the thinner wires, construct loops for dangles from another wire and then join them all back into a bundle to wrap together. One problem is that of keeping the pin attachment from turning in the harness, and this issue still needs a better resolution.
Week 16 ~ "Mens Designs":
This week, I am striving to fill many custom orders, and this piece is a new endeavor for me. Sometimes a customer will ask for a special piece which I have never done, and I usually accept the challenge. My customer specified exactly what she wanted with this pendant.
This is a double pendant, made with Facets of Light's own dichroic glass cabochons. It is decorated in an extreme style similar to a local artist's designs, but just different enough to be my own. The challenge was to incorporate many wires, necessarily thin, but with enough strength to support a double cabochon design. The order is for two double pendants, but I will call her to see this one before I complete the second one, which will be much less ornate.
