Week 36
~~~~~~~~~
2004-05 Year of Jewelry
Weekly Theme:"Amulet/Talisman"
This week has been filled with every emotion from the highest peaks to the darkest depths. I was honored and excited to have Metallique as my houseguest for a week and then to travel with her to the Jewelry Expo in Ft. Washington, PA, where I took several wonderful classes.
The last class was the hardest and most wonderful of all: a metal Art Clay class with Arlene Hildebrand which I shared with my friend Monika. It was an intense and frenetic endeavor to create the beautiful watch you see here, complete to the handmade toggle bar. As you can see, I snapped this quick picture at 4 PM when I completed my assembly of the watch I had labored over all day!
However, this poor picture is all I have left of my beautiful watch. A lesson in making lasting jewelry is never to rely on single jump rings to put jewelry together, but this is all I was provided with in the class. The watchband has yet to be tumbled but slipped off my wrist 2 hours later as I put my coat on to leave the restaurant for the 6 hour drive home. I discovered the loss almost immediately, but someone had found it in the 15 minutes it was off my wrist and they decided to keep it rather than turn it in to the restaurant. I am heartbroken. I know it will last its new owner a very long time... if they replace the jump rings with something sturdier.
