Weekly Theme:"Lucky Sevens" (June 29, 2005)

The number 7 is a mystical and magical number.

Not only is it the lucky magic that yields a jackpot when three 7's line up , it is also symbolic of many other things.

The seventh day of the week is always the Sabbath, the holy day. There are 7 metals of alchemy. Seven C's on a piano. Seven "notes:" do re mi fa so la ti.

There are 7 stars in the Big Dipper. Seven colors of the rainbow, and seven chakras in the body, to which the seven colors align.

And on the seventh day of my YOJ week, at about 7 PM, after beginning 6 other projects, a chakra bracelet, a bead frame and 4 different earrings, my Lucky Seven design exploded in a fit of Whimsy and coalesced into a pearl flowers brooch.

This piece, which is built on a planished silver swirled wire frame, features 6 individually made pearl blooms with the centers each a rainbow color. The 7th bloom is the whole of the parts, the presence of all colors. It integrates all of the blooms, all of the other chakras, with their respective qualities. It is the last milestone of the evolution of human awareness.

After the sometimes grim and sometimes testy moods of this past week, holding this piece in my hand and looking at the many planes of color and texture is soothing and a wondrous gift to my psyche.
