Week 46

2004-05 Year of Jewelry

Weekly Theme:"Wild Wwire" (July 6, 2005)

This 26 g round gf wire was wild, all right. It wildly refused to weave and coil as it was supposed to do!

As I was falling asleep Saturday night, a woven herringbone piece flashed across my mind, and luckily I remembered it when I woke up Sunday morning. Perhaps I shall try to do a completely woven herringbone in sterling silver, because either I am much too hard on the wire, or gf is nowhere near as sturdy as sterling silver. After the wire broke a few times, I transitioned into coiling instead of the weave, which was too tight in the herringbone.

This piece is an attractive blend of herringbone, basketweave and coiling techniques which encircle the pink peruvian opal with a sprinkle of 14Kgf accent beads. This piece started out to be the centerpiece of a pink and golden brangle, but when it came time for me to go to a baby shower on Sunday, I couldn't bear to leave it on the work desk, so I attached a jump ring to it and wore it to the shower as a pendant. Often, when I wear a piece of jewelry, I will bond with it, and that's what happened with my dear Perusion, which has now become part of my personal collection.

I received some nice compliments on it at the shower!
